Abstract: This research proposes a path of interpretation for Bresser-Pereira's intellectual trajectory in understanding the State and capitalist development in Brazil. Using the method of political economy—which combines the analysis of capital accumulation with the sociopolitical determinants of the mode of production—it attempts to grasp the essential elements of Bresser-Pereira's interpretation of each historical phase of capitalist development in Brazil, seeking to uncover the thinkers who informed his understanding of each period, as well as connect these ideas with the works and interpreters renowned in Brazilian economic literature and the social sciences in general

Abstract: This dissertation offers a critical analysis of the specificity of Brazilian public debt and its role in advancing fictitious capital in the country, with a particular focus on the introduction of the Renda+ government bond. Grounded in the Marxist theoretical framework, especially the concept of fictitious capital, the research investigates how public debt has become a central mechanism in the process of financialization and the reproduction of social inequalities. The study reviews the historical trajectory of Brazilian debt, emphasizing its transformation into a tool for capturing popular savings and enforcing fiscal discipline, as well as its role in transferring wealth to rentier capital. The analysis of the Renda+ bond highlights its function as a financial innovation that, far from being a neutral or purely technical solution for retirement planning, deepens the commodification of social needs and consolidates the logic of fictitious capital within the Brazilian state. The methodology combines critical theoretical analysis with documentary research and official data on public debt and government bond issuance. The dissertation concludes that Renda+ is not merely a new debt management instrument but a concrete expression of the contradictions of financialized capitalism and the subordination of public budgets to financial market interests

      <link>https://repositorio.pucsp.br/jspui/handle/handle/45382</link>
Abstract: Although “bioeconomy” is an increasingly widespread term, its meaning remains controversial. In some contexts, it refers primarily to biotechnology; in others, it may even be invoked to legitimize environmentally questionable practices. In the Amazon, however, the bioeconomy, in its conception known as sociobioeconomy, can become a structuring pillar of a sustainable and regenerative economic model, capable of contributing to the reduction of poverty and vulnerability in the state of Pará, where indicators of informality and dependence on income transfer programs are alarming. Nevertheless, this new model has not generated significant impacts on the lives of local communities, due to a series of structural challenges that hinder the expansion of businesses in the sector. Overcoming such obstacles is not a simple task - and perhaps not even feasible - for smallholder farmers, extractivists, traditional and riverside communities acting in isolation. For this reason, cooperativism emerges as a viable and promising alternative to promote productive inclusion and sustainable development for these populations. This thesis aims to analyze the role of cooperatives in overcoming these challenges and in strengthening the Amazonian bioeconomy, with a focus on the state of Pará. The research adopts a qualitative approach, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, using interviews and document analysis as the main data collection techniques. Its main academic contribution lies in the field study conducted with three cooperatives operating in the bioeconomy sector, located in different regions of the state of Pará, which enabled an in-depth understanding of the operational reality of the sector and its impacts in terms of productive inclusion and socioeconomic development. The study revealed significant gains in social, institutional, structural, and financial dimensions, indicating that cooperativism should be strengthened so that the peoples of the Amazon can achieve more substantial benefits and improve their living conditions through the bioeconomy

      <link>https://repositorio.pucsp.br/jspui/handle/handle/45372</link>
Abstract: This dissertation investigates the relevance of the economic thought of Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) and his presence in the History of Economic Thought (HET). The central hypothesis is that, although Aquinas addressed important economic concepts, such as value, just price, usury, and notions of private property, his presence in HET is not unanimous: he is cited by some authors, while others overlook his work and relevance. The study is divided into four chapters. The first introduces the figure of Thomas Aquinas and the appropriate methods for interpreting his work, drawing on authors such as Strauss, Skinner, and established Thomistic scholars like Grabmann and Copleston. The second chapter reconstructs his philosophical and moral system, leading to his economic ideas and placing them in contrast with more modern economic perspectives. The third chapter examines his influence on authors and schools of thought over the centuries in relation to economics, including the School of Salamanca, Catholic Social Teaching, and contemporary thinkers such as Hirschfeld and Mueller. Finally, the fourth chapter analyzes how various HET textbooks treat Aquinas, whether by recognizing or omitting his contributions, and reflects on the methodological reasons each author offers to justify their position. The goal is to assess whether Thomas Aquinas offers a solid and coherent contribution to economics, based on his economic thought, his influence throughout the centuries, and his treatment in HET literature
