Abstract

From the point of view of mutual influences between word, image and graphic design, strands that work together in the building of the scripture of a hybrid triadic text, this research claims its place as an interdisciplinary investigation, with an ecological approach to the picturebook as its main methodological path to identify the potential text. The ecology of the picturebook, as presented by David Lewis, offers itself as the preferred method to enlighten the mechanisms of articulation which create potential text: openness to interanimation played by the body-reader. To investigate the phenomenon of interanimation we looked towards the concept of performance, in the thought of Paul Zumthor, and to better understand the concept of scripture we turn to the lessons of Roland Barthes. Our proposition places the poetic, in the context of the picturebook, in the particular fusion between design and the hybrid narrative text, phenomenon capable to reach whoever is ready to become one with text in the mediation of interanimation, performance and punctum (Barthes). The main focus of this study defines itself in the enquiry of the existence, amongst national and international picturebooks, of what we named potential text, with the aim to reveal the conditions in which its poetic nature best thrives
