Abstract

The Woman Envolved in the Sun and the Great Prostitute are presented as antithetical, bear supernatural attributes and have characteristics compatible with humans. This study seeks to understand each of these characters in their own context, as well as to identify their particularities and determine their importance at that specific moment in history. In order to do so, the influence of Judaism and the OT were considered as theoretical anchors, as well as notes about the Woman Envolved in the Sun, with regard to the following topics: how did her emergence in heaven, her stay on earth, the persecutions that the Dragon imposed and the rescue coming from God. Likewise, the Great Whore was analyzed from several topics, which range from its introduction to its destruction. The historical-critical method permeated the exegetical analyses. As for the stages of analysis, the following stand out: the delimitation of the work pericope, the study of textual variants and segmentation. Formal translation and linguistic analysis were also adopted. Through this study, it was observed that two of the characters presented by John have the ability to synthesize the message contained in his book of Revelation. Woman Envolved in the Sun, appeared in the sky, is adorned with divine gifts, represents faithfulness to God and trust in her plans. The other, the Great Whore, has exactly the opposite characteristics, fascinated by luxury, power and oppression against those who refuse to also participate in her way of life. This symbolizes the most disgusting behaviors in the eyes of God. Each of them serves his lord to the best of his ability and receives a fair wage in return for his actions. The first gestation is the Son(s) of God and, despite all the difficulties on his way, he is about to reach fullness with his Creator. The second is a cup of sins and abominations, seeking every day to lead men and women to idolatry and moral corruption. So many differences predict the fate that awaits them; one will be cared for, protected and saved, the other will be destroyed. However, above all this, these two figures represent the woman and the man, in their walk through this world, through the ages. One moment they are saints; in the next, sinners capable of losing themselves in the love of God with the same force that can adhere to immorality and prostitution. In this sense, it is noteworthy that each person defines his or her trench, because the sentence of God, already proclaimed, will quickly be fulfilled
